Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 titanium rod is a high-performance alpha-beta titanium alloy, also known as ASTM B348 Gr5 or 6Al-4V titanium bar. Composed of 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, it exhibits exceptional properties such as high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, and performance across extreme temperatures. Its tensile strength reaches 895 MPa, yield strength 825 MPa, elongation 10%, and reduction of area 25%.

Manufacturing Process

 

Raw Material Control: Medical grade uses Grade 0 sponge titanium (impurities ≤0.1%); industrial grade uses Grade 1.
Forging: Performed above β-transus temperature (955±15°C) using 2000-3500 ton hydraulic presses to break as-cast structures.
Hot Rolling: Conducted in the two-phase region (850-900°C) below β-transus, with precise pass reduction control (30-50%).
Precision Machining: Combines cold drawing and centerless grinding to achieve h8/h9 tolerances (±0.03mm) and Ra 0.4μm surface finish for medical implants.
Annealing: Differentiated by cross-section: ≤10mm (30min), 11-50mm (60min), >50mm (2h).
Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 titanium rod offers good machinability but requires careful parameter control due to rapid tool wear. Manufacturing involves sponge titanium as raw material, processed through electrode hydraulic pressing and vacuum arc remelting (VAR) twice, followed by precision forging, hot rolling, cold drawing, machining, and non-destructive testing.
